LAURENT POTTIERAnalysis of "Kernel", a piece by Kasper T. Toeplitz.AbstractIn this presentation, we'll consider different approaches to an analysis of Kernel, a piece of Kasper Toeplitz, created in 2002 in Marseille. We'll present the technical environment used in a concert and we'll examine the score - realized thanks to Composition Aided by Computer's programs - which represents, in an original and accurate way, every sound event (acoustic or electronic) that must be produced by the performers live. About Kernel, each performer must program his own sound synthesis and processing software, on his own computer, depending on the instructions drawn in the score. Performing the piece depends on the gesture made by the performers live but it depends also on the way they understand the indications on the score when they build their own program. |
