TILLMAN WEYDEIntegrated Representation of Musical Content, Structure and MetadataAbstractMusic is highly structured and can be very complex, which needs to be reflected in musical data to make them fully accessible and usable. One of the major problems concerning musical data collections is that existing musical data formats are mostly focused on one or two layers of representation, e.g. sound, performance events, music notation, or text. Musical knowledge, as it is needed for applications not only in musicology and music education, defines and uses musical structures and their relations on multiple levels. Formal descriptions of musical structures within the levels and the relations between them are needed. Metadata are an effort in this direction, but yet they mostly lack description of internal structures of music, although newer formats show progress in the direction. In this talk several issues will be discussed and some work results from the MUSITECH project will be shown. |
