LINUX INSTALL-PARTY

The Free Software and Software Engineering Team will organize a Linux install-party in collaboration with Redhat France Society (free installation of AGNULA and Planet CCRMA distributions on the computers of the users).

-  Date : October 18th-19th, 2003, 12pm to 8pm
-  Venue : Ircam, salle Olivier Messiaen
-  Access conditions : Free entrance upon reservation :
François Déchelle or Patrice Tisserand

Program

The idea behind an install-party is very simple : anyone coming with his computer (tower only, no screen or other external peripheral) or laptop can get a Linux distribution installed on his computer by a group of competent people.

The Linux distributions installed during the Install-party will be the DeMuDi and ReHMuDi distributions, created as part of the european AGNULA project (A GNU Linux Audio distribution, http://www.agnula.org) as well as the Planet CCRMA distribution created by the Center for Computer Research in Music and Acoustics.

The ReHMudi and the Planet CCRMA distributions are based on RedHat, and DeMuDi is based on Debian.

These distributions feature a wide range of music and audio applications, covering the needs of composition, sound editing and production, and live performances.

To take part in an Install-party, you must check that :

-your hardware is compatible with Linux (see http://www.linuxhardware.net and http://www.linux-laptop.net) ;
-you know exactly what hardware you have ;
-you have a recent backup of your data (Ircam cannot be held responsible for any loss or damaged due to the installation of a Linux distribution on your computer) ;
-you have a free partition with enough free space on your hard drive to install Linux (around 4Gb).

More information about Install-parties is available on Parinux web site.
