Philippe Aigrain

Scientific advisory mission, Ircam's scientific department

Philippe Aigrain studied maths and computer science. After working in research & development for software companies, he spent 1983-1996 doing research on content-based indexing and interaction with audio-visual media (photographs, video, music). From 1996 to 2003 he worked in the European R&D funding programmes, where as the head of sector "software technology and society" he initiated and co-ordinated the actions in support to free / open source software.

He has now joined Ircam for a short term scientific advisory mission, during the setting up of a company he is founding. This company will develop free software and provide services for the public debate over the internet.
