David Zicarelli

Developer of Max/MSP software, Director of Cycling'74

David Zicarelli is an engineer specializing in interactive media software. He has worked for Intelligent Music, Opcode, Ircam, and Gibson Guitar. In 1988 he began collaborating with Miller Puckette on the interactive programming environment Max and helped create the first commercial version of the software released in 1991.

In 1997, he founded Cycling '74, a company that develops, distributes, and supports Max and its real-time audio processing software MSP. The company has also developed Max/MSP-based products such as the audio plug-in collection Pluggo, and the video and matrix data-processing system Jitter. It has also started a label called c74 that releases recordings and other digital media produced with Max/MSP/Jitter by independent artists.

Zicarelli received a doctorate in Hearing and Speech Sciences from Stanford University, and lives in Santa Cruz, California.
