Mikhail MaltMusical Assistant of Ircam Pedagogy Department Mikhail Malt started his music career in Brazil as a flautist and conductor, after having conducted youth orchestras for ten years. At Ircam, he is responsible for computer-assisted composition courses, and for the coordination of the Computer-Assisted Composition design group, within the Musical Representation team led by Gérard Assayag. He is the author of an Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales thesis on the use of mathematical models in computer-assisted composition, under the guidance of Hugues Dufourt. He also continues to pursue his activities of composition and research. He was, for instance, composer in residence at the State University of Michigan, where he developed a series of conferences on his work, and where he composed his piece 8_paths for oboe and real time electronics.
