Stéphan SchaubPhD Student, University of Paris-IV Sorbonne Stéphan Schaub holds degrees in percussion performance (studying with G. Cook) and in music composition and theory (studying with D. Asia) from the University of Arizona. Parallel to his musical training, he pursued his interest in mathematics and, in 1996, completed the requirements for a Master of Science degree with a thesis on algebraic methods in music theory. After working as a consultant in Switzerland developing stochastic models of pension fund liabilities, he resumed his studies in Paris, France. He obtained a Master's degree (DEA) in musicology from the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales (EHESS) and became a doctoral candidate at the Sorbonne University (Paris IV). Since 1998 he has also been collaborating on various projects with the Ircam's departments of pedagogy and of musical representations. His main areas of interest include formal methods in music theory, computer aided analysis and the links between mathematics and musical composition.
