Pamela Madsen

Composer, music theorist, pianist

Pamela A. Madsen, composer, theorist is currently an Assistant Professor of Composition, Theory and Music Technology at California State University, Fullerton. She completed her Ph.D. in Composition at UCSD with Brian Ferneyhough and undertook doctoral studies in music theory at Yale University.

She has been invited guest composer/researcher at major centers for contemporary music throughout the United States and Europe, namely : June in Buffalo, Acrosanti, Darmstadt Ferienkurse für Neue Musik, Ircam, Paris, Acanthes Festival, Avignon-Villeneuve and the Center for Contemporary Music at Mills College. Her compositional and theoretical work focuses on issues of technology, form and the feminine voice and is published in Musik Texte.

She is organizer and curator of the International Electro-Acoustic Women's Listening Room Event : Transforming Voices. The electro-acoustic Sexton Cycle has been premiered by members of Zeitgeist, SONOR and the Arditti String Quartet. Currently she is completing The Sibyl, an electro-acoustic opera for various ensembles and soloists throughout the United States and Europe : Zeitgeist, yesaroun' duo, the California Ear Unit, and Ian Pace.
